Carl Dean, the beloved husband of Dolly Parton for over 60 years, has passed away in Nashville, Tennessee. Dolly shared the news on her social media on Monday.
In her heartfelt statement, Parton said, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t express the love we shared.” Dean was 82 years old.
According to Dolly’s publicist, he died on Monday and will be honored in a private ceremony with only close family members attending.
The couple first crossed paths in 1964, outside a laundromat on Dolly’s first day in Nashville. She described it as a moment when he “swept her off her feet.” They tied the knot two years later.
Reflecting on their first meeting, Dolly recalled in an interview that he seemed genuinely interested in her. “I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face. That was a rare thing for me,” she said, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Dolly and Carl chose not to have children. When asked about this in a 2019 CBS “Sunday Morning” interview, she replied, “No, absolutely not. It wasn’t meant to be, and I don’t regret it. I knew early on that I would walk this path as long as God allowed me.” Even now, she continues on her journey.
Carl is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie. Dolly expressed her thanks for the support and prayers during this difficult time.
