Dolphins Suffer Heartbreaker Against Gryphons in Thrilling Conference Showdown – University of Mount Saint Vincent Athletics

The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s men’s volleyball team played against Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday night in a Skyline Conference match. Although the Dolphins took the first set, they ended up losing the match 3-1.

The Dolphins kicked off strong, with standout performances from graduate student Felix Paulino and senior Olatomiwa Ibitayo. They quickly built a lead filled with powerful kills and service aces. The Gryphons managed to tie the score at 13-13, but UMSV quickly regained the advantage. Despite some close plays from Sarah Lawrence, the Dolphins won the first set 25-23.

Things took a turn in the second set. UMSV struggled as the Gryphons hit their stride, going on several scoring runs the Dolphins couldn’t keep up with. In the third set, UMSV briefly led before Sarah Lawrence surged ahead again, taking the set.

In the fourth set, the Dolphins had moments of success, scoring off their opponent’s mistakes. However, the Gryphons proved too strong, sealing the match.

Several players stood out in the game. James Rose and Terrence Short both recorded 11 kills and 3 digs. Yestro Luciano Jr. and Ibitayo also contributed with 8 kills and 3 digs each. Paulino was a key player, leading with 10 digs and providing 33 assists, plus 3 service aces. Senior Carlos Martinez made an impact too, with 9 digs.

Looking ahead, the Dolphins are gearing up for a Skyline Tri-Match against Manhattanville and Yeshiva on Sunday, March 23. This is an opportunity for them to bounce back and regain momentum in their season.
