Huskies Dominate Gonzaga in 6-0 Victory
Washington’s soccer team showcased their strength in a thrilling match against Gonzaga, winning 6-0 and marking their third straight victory. This win brings their season record to 4-2-2 and extends their unbeaten streak to six games, with four wins and two draws.
The game was a display of offensive power. Washington now has 23 goals this season, tying them with Lindenwood University for the most in the NCAA. Notably, in three of their four wins, the Huskies scored four or more goals. In their last six games, they’ve consistently found the net at least twice.
Washington didn’t waste any time. From the first whistle, they pressed Gonzaga, creating tough situations for the defenders. The turning point came in the 23rd minute when Terry Watson received a yellow card and was ejected just seven minutes later.
Taking advantage of their opponent’s disadvantage, Charlie Kosakoff opened the scoring with a brilliant free kick in the 30th minute. This was his fourth goal of the season and his third in two games.
After a strong first half, Washington erupted in the second half. Alex Hall scored two quick goals in a span of just over a minute, and soon after, Richie Aman set up Zach Ramsey for another goal. Mani Diop followed with an incredible acrobatic goal from a corner, and Chad Sovde capped off the scoring just two minutes later with a close finish.
Overall, the Huskies dominated, firing 19 shots with 15 on target, compared to Gonzaga’s four total shots. Goalkeeper Levi Bieber earned his second clean sheet of the season, making two saves.
Star performers included Alex Hall, who tallied two goals and one assist, while Richie Aman contributed two assists along with a goal from Ramsey, Kosakoff, Diop, and Sovde.
In a noteworthy moment, Asher Hestad made his first career start, playing 57 minutes. Washington also utilized several substitutes, ensuring fresh legs throughout the game.
Looking ahead, the Huskies will face Michigan on Saturday for their second Big Ten match. It’s set to be an exciting matchup as they aim to continue their winning streak.
