Virginia Beach, Va. – Washington and Lee’s men’s lacrosse team dominated Virginia Wesleyan with a stunning 24-5 victory. This game showcased a strong start and consistent scoring, with 21 players contributing points.
Game Highlights:
The Generals took an early lead, scoring five goals in the first quarter. They quickly extended this to 9-0, with standout performances from senior James Haley and first-year Luke Caldwell, both of whom tallied three points in the first period.
After a lull in scoring, Virginia Wesleyan managed to sneak in two quick goals. However, W&L’s Tucker Davis responded, ending the half with a goal and starting the second half with another just eight seconds in. This sparked a 13-1 run for the Generals, bringing the score to 22-3. Senior Ben Irmscher and junior Andrew Keller rounded out the scoring with the last two goals.
Top Performers:
Haley and Davis shone the brightest, each notching three goals and three assists. Caldwell also contributed significantly with two goals and three assists. Eight other players scored multiple points, highlighting the team’s depth.
On the defensive front, goalie JJ Kim was a key player with four caused turnovers and three ground balls, while making eight saves. The team’s face-off prowess was also noteworthy, winning 21 out of 33 attempts.
Team Stats:
W&L led with 56 shots, converting 40 on goal. They also outperformed the Marlins in ground balls, winning 44 to their 28. Virginia Wesleyan struggled with 30 turnovers, while W&L had a solid 23 successful clearances out of 25 attempts.
