Caldwell, N.J. (3/15/25) – The Dominican University New York women’s lacrosse team had an impressive start to their CACC season, defeating Caldwell University 21-1. This victory marks Dominican’s first conference win, bringing their record to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Caldwell, on the other hand, struggled, falling to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The Lady Chargers wasted no time establishing dominance, scoring eight goals in the first quarter. They continued their offensive push, adding six more goals in the second quarter for a staggering 14-0 halftime lead. The team didn’t let up, scoring four more in the third quarter and two additional goals in the fourth, before Caldwell found the net late in the game thanks to Meghan Korzevinski.
Madelyn Grella had a standout performance for Dominican, tallying 10 points with six assists and four goals, leading the team in shots with 12. She also contributed three ground balls. Josie Lettieri and Rylie McGhan each scored three goals, with McGhan also recording four draw controls. Lettieri added two assists for a total of five points.
Other contributors included Madison Mileti and Sydney Strohmayer, who both scored twice. Strohmayer also collected three ground balls and achieved a team-high five draw controls. Jordana Tomasetti found the net once and provided an assist, while several teammates, including Alexa Preston, Ava Carabetta, and Ellie Brouwer, each contributed with one goal.
Defensively, Jenna Rigo was a standout, grabbing a team-high six ground balls, marking her 100th career ground ball. She also led in caused turnovers with four. Goalkeepers Kristinamarie Kaszovitz and Emma Crater split duties in net, with Kaszovitz making two saves during her 45 minutes of play.
Women’s lacrosse has been growing in popularity, with a 25% increase in participation among high school girls across the U.S. from 2010 to 2020. Expert insights suggest that as more young athletes continue to play, the level of competition is rising. This is evident in the skills displayed by players like Grella, who represents the new wave of talent in the sport.
