Clermont, Fla. (3/8/25) – The Dominican University New York softball team had a mixed day at The Spring Games, winning one game and losing another.
The Lady Chargers started strong, securing a 2-0 victory against Concord University. The game was tight until the fifth inning when shortstop Chloe McIntosh came through with a key hit, driving in the first run. Later, she added another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, sealing the win. McIntosh ended the game with two RBIs, and centerfielder Emma Kaszovitz contributed with two hits. Pitcher Emily Baxter threw a complete game, notching five strikeouts along the way.
In the second game, the team faced Winona State University. The Warriors jumped ahead early, leading 6-0 by the third inning. Dominican managed to score a run from an RBI double by Nicole Mata, but it wasn’t enough. Winona State went on to win 9-1, adding runs in each of the next innings. Mata recorded one hit and one RBI, while Toni-Jo Lopez also had a hit. Unfortunately, pitcher Victoria Iorio took the loss after two innings on the mound.
Following this trip to Florida, the Lady Chargers hold a record of 3-9 for the season. They will look to bounce back on March 12 when they play at East Stroudsburg University.
