Donate Your Plastic Containers: How Supporting Our Food Bank Can Make a Difference!

The Central Peninsula Landfill in Soldotna is currently holding off on recycling plastic and other materials due to a broken recycling baler. This situation means many people may be looking for alternative ways to dispose of their plastic items.

If you have used plastic containers, the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank has a solution. They are accepting these containers for their pet food program. The food bank uses these containers to repackage pet food into smaller portions that can be donated.

Greg Meyer, the outgoing executive director of the food bank, explains how important these donations are. “We want containers that keep things dry and are rodent-proof,” he says. He recognizes how much single-use plastic is in food packaging and encourages the community to recycle whenever they can.

Meyer adds, “If we can’t recycle it, we should be repurposing it.” The food bank especially prefers larger plastic containers, like those that held coffee or yogurt. They also welcome to-go food containers that have snap-on lids.

If you want to help, you can drop off your used food containers at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank’s warehouse on Kalifornsky Beach Road, near Kenai Peninsula College. Your donations can make a difference by reducing waste and supporting pets in need.
