Coach Eliah Drinkwitz has set the stage for a battle between redshirt junior Sam Horn and Penn State transfer Beau Pribula. At SEC media days, Drinkwitz emphasized the importance of patience in naming a starter. He believes the best candidate will reveal himself in time. “It’s really not the coaches deciding,” he said. “When the quarterback’s ready, he’ll announce himself to the team.”

Horn has an edge with four years in the program, having logged 42 snaps over his career. On the other hand, Pribula has shown promise at Penn State, making key plays in high-pressure situations. He played in 24 games, throwing nine touchdowns and running for ten. His standout moment came against Wisconsin, completing 11 of 13 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Both quarterbacks share similar skills: they can run effectively and make smart decisions on the field. Drinkwitz noted, “They both have the ability to extend plays and are physical.”

However, it’s not just the quarterback spot that raises questions. The left tackle position is another area of concern. Drinkwitz pointed out that until they solidify these roles, it’s tough to predict if this team could be the best he’s coached in Columbia.

On a positive note, Missouri boasts a strong defense. Players like linebacker transfer Josiah Trotter and safety Jalen Catalon are expected to lead the charge. Drinkwitz expressed confidence in the talent of his squad, but he knows crucial decisions must be made first.

Missouri had impressive records of 10-3 in 2024 and 11-2 in 2023. This season looks promising with a favorable schedule, including six home games before facing Auburn on October 18. They also benefit from not playing against tough opponents like Texas, Georgia, and LSU.
