Don’t Miss Jimmy Fortune Live! Experience Country-Gospel Magic at The Harvester

ROANOKE, Va. – The Statler Brothers, hailing from Staunton, Virginia, are country music legends. They were already making waves with songs like “Flowers on the Wall” when Jimmy Fortune joined the group in the early ’80s.

Fortune stepped in for Lew DeWitt, who left because of health problems. Fortune has always viewed his role as a privilege, not just a job. “I never wanted to take someone’s place, especially under those circumstances,” he recalls.

During his 20+ years with The Statler Brothers, Fortune experienced notable success. He was behind hits like “Too Much on My Heart” and “Elizabeth.” Interestingly, the song “Elizabeth” was partly inspired by the famous actress, but there’s a deeper story. Fortune met a fan named Elizabeth at a concert in Oklahoma. “She held my hand and said, ‘I’m Elizabeth,’” he remembers. This encounter inspired him, almost as if it was a sign from above, shaping the song’s narrative.

Fortune’s faith is a big part of his life and music. He has released several gospel albums, feeling that his purpose is to touch people’s hearts. “It’s a privilege to share our music and connect with others,” he says.

He has visited The Harvester Performance Center several times and enjoys every moment. “The atmosphere is always lively, and Virginia feels like home,” he shares, reflecting on his roots.

At his March performance there, fans can expect a mix of country and gospel music, along with a special tribute to veterans. For Fortune, these shows are about more than just music; they’re about fostering connection. “We’re all in this together,” he says. “Let’s appreciate what we have and love one another.”

Jimmy Fortune will perform at The Harvester Performance Center on Friday, March 14, at 8 PM.
