Olivia Rodrigo made her debut as the host of Saturday Night Live last night, also serving as the musical guest. She played her new single “Drop Dead” from her upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love, along with another fresh track, “Begged,” which she first shared at a private event in LA with Weyes Blood.
During her opening monologue, she showed a clip from her first acting gig—a commercial for Old Navy when she was just six. She also performed a fun parody of her hit “Driver’s License,” poking fun at the hassle of getting a Real I.D. Throughout the night, Rodrigo took on quirky roles, including a heartbroken girlfriend trying to make her ex jealous, an amateur baker, and even a soap opera character known for dramatic confrontations.
In addition to Weyes Blood, she welcomed guests like Heated Rivalry‘s Connor Storrie and Debbie Harry, who introduced her songs. Aziz Ansari made a cameo as an FBI Director, adding to the humor of the episode.
Rodrigo’s appearance on SNL isn’t her first. Earlier this year, she performed “Vampire” and “All-American Bitch” ahead of her second album Guts. Impressively, she’s the third artist to host and perform in this season, joining Harry Styles and Sabrina Carpenter.
Her new album drops on June 12, and she recently announced the Unraveled Tour. This tour will include four-night residencies in major cities like London, New York, and Los Angeles, featuring acts like Grace Ives and Wolf Alice on selected dates.
It’s clear that Rodrigo’s star is on the rise. According to a recent survey, 84% of fans are particularly excited about her new music, signaling a strong following as she navigates her growing career. With her unique blend of songwriting and performance, she’s becoming a significant voice for her generation.
