Don’t Miss Out: Exciting Weekend Commencement Activities at Andrews University!

Andrews University’s spring graduation weekend is set for May 1-4, featuring a range of exciting events. Highlights include a Commencement service on Friday evening, special Baccalaureate services on Saturday morning, and two Commencement ceremonies on Sunday.

All ceremonies will take place at the Andreasen Center for Wellness, with Baccalaureate services held at Pioneer Memorial Church. To accommodate families of graduates, the Commencement ceremonies will be split into three sessions, each with reserved seating.

Friday, May 2, features John Peckham, a theology professor at Andrews University, who will speak during the Commencement for the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary and the College of Education & International Services. His talk, titled “Do Not Lose Heart,” draws on his extensive background in theology, including a PhD from Andrews and numerous published works, including his latest book, “Why We Pray.”

Two honorary degree recipients will be honored at this service. E. Edward Zinke, known for his contributions to Adventist theology, has been pivotal in supporting educational initiatives. Paul Brantley, another recipient, has a long history of influence in education and leadership within the Seventh-day Adventist Church, having held various esteemed positions over his career.

On Saturday, May 3, Ivan Williams, a notable leader in the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists, will deliver his address “No Regrets” at both Baccalaureate services, encouraging graduates to reflect on their future journeys. Williams has an impressive background, including serving as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force.

Sunday, May 4, will host two Commencement services. Terry Shaw, CEO of AdventHealth, will speak during the 8:30 a.m. service, sharing insights from his four-decade career in health care. His leadership has guided AdventHealth through significant changes, emphasizing a commitment to philanthropy and education. At 11:30 a.m., Meredith Jones Gray, a professor emerita at Andrews, will address graduates from the College of Arts & Sciences, connecting the school’s rich history to today’s achievements.
