Google is shaking up its pricing strategy for the Pixel lineup starting in 2025. The adjustments include price hikes, drops, and some prices holding steady. Notably, the Pixel Fold model is set to decrease to $1,499 by 2026, marking a $300 decrease over two years.
There were concerns about the smaller “Pro” Pixel model disappearing if sales dipped. However, a source close to Google confirms it will stick around until at least the Pixel 13 launches in 2028. The lineup will feature the Pixel a-series, the standard model, two Pro versions, and a Foldable model through the next few years.
Interestingly, the Pixel Fold’s price is expected to fall further in 2028, potentially reaching around $1,500. Meanwhile, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold could settle at about $1,600. This trend is fascinating: as other foldable devices see price increases, Google seems to be working to make its foldable more accessible. There’s speculation this shift could help Google capture a larger share of the foldable market.
The Pixel devices will have a familiar release pattern. Anticipate four Pixel models launching every August, much like the Pixel 9 series. The a-series will continue to debut in spring, maintaining its rhythm since the Pixel 3a in 2019.
For at least the next few years, the Pixel a-series will remain priced at $499, which keeps it in a separate category from the base-model Pixel. This pricing consistency is refreshing, especially considering the rise from $399 when the Pixel 3a debuted.
Google’s pricing approach for flagship models is also evolving. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is expected to see a price increase of about $100, bringing it to $1,200. This change creates a clearer distinction in pricing across the various models, compelling consumers to think more critically about their choices.
This strategy mirrors moves made by other tech giants like Apple. For instance, Apple raised the starting price of its iPhone 15 Pro Max by eliminating the 128GB model, now starting at 256GB. Google might adopt similar tactics with its Pixel 10 series.
Recent data indicates the Pixel 9 series performed exceptionally well, partly due to favorable pricing and improvements in performance. As Google continues to refine its strategy, it faces both challenges and opportunities in a competitive market.
