PITTSBURG — At the recent PSU “Almost Last Chance” Invitational, athletes from Pittsburg State University’s track & field teams showcased impressive talent. They achieved a total of 36 qualifying marks for the upcoming 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, set for May 21-23 in Emporia, Kansas.
The men’s team stood out with 17 qualifying marks, including seven personal bests. Notably, Jack Haukap broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 233 feet, 4 inches. Dylan Sprecker also made headlines with a record-breaking 800-meter dash, finishing in 1:48.29. Two more athletes, Eli Gilmore (1:48.35) and Caden Uthe (1:48.82), also ran under the previous school record.
Ilias Garcia brought excitement in the 100 meters, clocking a personal best of 10.19 seconds. Meanwhile, Isaiah Webster recorded a season-best in triple jump at 49-9.25, and Brennan Boord tossed a hammer throw of 207-6.
The women’s team didn’t hold back either, achieving 19 qualifying marks, with standout performances from Makayla Pavelka (long jump, 19-11.75), Abby Lasiter (hammer throw, 188-9), Rachel Wilson (high jump, 5-7.25), and the 4x100m relay team at 45.19.
Both teams are currently ranked No. 1 in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Ratings Index. The NCAA will announce national qualifiers next week.
This invitation was a critical step for these athletes, as they aim to compete on a larger stage. Final meets like this often show how hard work and determination can lead to success, both personally and for the team as a whole. It’s an exciting time for Pittsburg State track & field as they prepare for the championships!
