Fans eager to attend the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games can register starting Wednesday for a chance to snag tickets, with prices beginning at just $28. Registration opens at 7:00 AM local time and will be available until mid-March.
Once registered, fans will enter a random drawing. If selected, they’ll receive an email in April with a time slot to purchase tickets. A significant portion of tickets—about one million—will be priced at $28, with nearly one-third costing under $100.
Casey Wasserman, the chairman of LA 2028, emphasized that these Games are meant for everyone. He mentioned the importance of making events affordable and accessible.
This move towards lower ticket prices comes in the wake of criticism over high costs for the upcoming 2026 men’s football World Cup, which will be hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico. LA officials are keen on ensuring sport fans globally can experience the excitement of the Games.
Interestingly, the 2024 Olympics in Paris had ticket prices starting at around $27.95. To further support accessibility, there will be an early purchase option for residents of Los Angeles and Oklahoma City, where some events will occur.
The 2028 Games mark a return of the Olympics to the US for the first time since Atlanta in 1996. Los Angeles has previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984, using existing infrastructure to keep costs down.
A ceremonial lighting of the Olympic cauldron recently took place at the LA Memorial Coliseum to mark this ticket registration launch. The Coliseum has seen Olympic events twice before and is set to co-host the opening and closing ceremonies in 2028.
Fans need to register with their name, email, and zip code. While they’ll have a shot at purchasing tickets, it’s important to note that getting a time slot doesn’t guarantee ticket availability. The first purchasing window will run from April 9 to 19, which will also include access to the opening and closing ceremony tickets.
Most events will be held in Los Angeles and southern California, while canoeing and softball will take place in Oklahoma. LA28’s chief, Allison Katz-Mayfield, described the random ticket-drawing process as the fairest method to provide equal opportunity for all fans, ensuring no one is unfairly advantaged.
