Taylor Swift is making a splash in theaters this October. Instead of a regular movie, she’s hosting an 89-minute event called “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.” It kicks off on October 3, the same day her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” drops.
This unique event will be like one of her famous album listening parties. From October 3 to October 5, fans can catch it in over 540 AMC Theatres and many other cinemas across North America, including Cinemark and Regal theaters. Screenings start at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT).
Fans can look forward to the world premiere of the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.” The event promises behind-the-scenes footage, lyric videos, and personal stories from Swift about her new songs. It’s not just a movie; it’s more of a celebration meant to connect fans with Swift’s creative journey.
Tickets are priced at $12—a nod to her 12th album, which features 12 songs. They went on sale at 12:12 p.m. ET, fittingly. You can buy them through AMC Theatres and other cinemas via releasepartyofashowgirl.com.
What sets this event apart? Fans are encouraged to sing and dance along with the music, a rare treat in theaters. However, they are reminded to keep things civil by not blocking aisles.
This special party will extend beyond the U.S. to over a hundred countries, although not all will show it at the same time. Many international locations will enjoy the release on the same dates as the U.S., including Canada, the U.K., and several European nations.
When she shared this news, Swift hinted at revealing the inspirations behind her music. “Dancing is optional but very much encouraged,” she wrote, promising a fun and engaging atmosphere.
Speculation around a Swift project had been buzzing for weeks, with fans mistakenly guessing it would be an “Eras Tour” documentary. However, Swift has chosen to focus on her new album instead.
Interestingly, Swift’s previous cinematic endeavor, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” was a massive success, becoming the highest-grossing concert film ever at $181 million in the U.S. Its worldwide gross was $262 million. This new event may not match those numbers but is surely a welcome injection for theaters looking for big crowds this fall.
With the competition including a Dwayne Johnson movie and a re-release of “Avatar: The Way of Water,” Swift’s event could be a must-see for fans and a boon for theater operators.
