The 2025 WPIAL boys basketball season is heating up. Teams are fighting for section titles and playoff spots, making every game crucial.

In Section 1-6A, Fox Chapel and Seneca Valley share the top spot, both with records of 8-2. New Castle is close behind at 7-3. This Tuesday, the Red Hurricanes will face the Raiders, a rematch after their earlier meeting. Seneca Valley won that game in New Castle, handing New Castle its first loss of the season.

In that matchup, Andrew Omasits from Seneca Valley scored 19 points, while New Castle’s Kai Cox put up 20 points. Meanwhile, Fox Chapel is set to play North Allegheny at home. The Foxes won their last encounter, courtesy of a strong performance from Caden Kaiser, who scored 17 points.

Other key matchups include North Hills against Pine-Richland and Woodland Hills hosting Butler, as playoff spots are still very much in the balance.

Can Baldwin Bounce Back?

This week, Baldwin, boasting a strong 16-1 record, is looking to avenge its only loss against South Fayette, who has a record of 13-5. Baldwin lost to South Fayette earlier this season in a close game, 37-32, where the Lions set the pace early on.

South Fayette’s game saw senior guard Stefano Vezio scoring 12 points and junior forward Tyson Wright contributing 10. As they meet again, both teams are fighting for top position in their section.

A Battle for Playoff Spots

In Section 1-2A, the race is tight for the last two playoff spots. Riverview, Springdale, and Bentworth are neck-and-neck, each trying to secure a spot as the regular season nears its end.

Riverview and Springdale will meet this Tuesday. In their first matchup, Riverview edged out Springdale with a narrow 44-39 victory. A win for Springdale would level the playing field in the standings, as they chase playoff dreams alongside Riverview and Bentworth.

This final stretch of the season promises plenty of exciting basketball action as teams battle not just for victories, but for their hopes of playoff glory.
