Don’t Miss the Action: Wildcats Face Off Against Temple in Thrilling Big Five Showdown This Monday!

Villanova, Pa. – The holiday season is upon us, and the Villanova Wildcats are back in action. This week, they play some important games in the Philadelphia Big Five. It all kicks off Monday night at Finneran Pavilion when the Wildcats (5-1 overall, 1-0 Big Five) take on Temple (4-3 overall, 1-0 Big Five).

The winner will move on to Saturday’s championship game against Penn (2-0 Big Five), while the other team will play in a different game. A few tickets are still available for Monday night, so check it out if you’re interested.

The Wildcats are riding a five-game winning streak, averaging an impressive 91 points per game at Finneran Pavilion. Their last game was a solid victory over Old Dominion, where they won 89-75.

One standout player is junior guard Tyler Perkins. In the recent match, he scored 21 points with impressive shooting. He’s helped propel the Wildcats forward, averaging 17 points over the last two games, up from the 8 points he scored in each of his first four games this season. His energy is undeniable. Head coach Kevin Willard praised Perkins, noting how critical his defensive plays and scoring are for the team.

Perkins played a key role in breaking open the game against Old Dominion, starting the second half with two steals, scoring a layup, and assisting on another basket. “He’s figuring out how to play in our system,” Willard added.

Last year, the Wildcats and Owls faced each other during the Big Five Classic, resulting in a decisive 94-65 win for Villanova. They broke their own 3-point record then by nailing 19 shots from beyond the arc, a feat they topped recently with 22 in another game.

Over at Temple, they opened their season strong, winning three out of four games, including a solid 94-60 victory against La Salle. However, they faced challenges in their most recent games, which included tight contests against UC San Diego and Rhode Island. Regardless, the Owls have shown they can score, averaging 80 points per game and hitting about 37% of their 3-point attempts.

This Monday’s game will be televised nationally on FS1, with commentary by Dave Sims and Donny Marshall. Fans can also listen to the audio broadcast on the Villanova Sports Radio Network via IHeart (Sirius XM channel 381).

As college basketball heats up, these rivalries and performances will be key stories to follow. With both teams vying for a spot in the championships, every play will count. Fans are in for an exciting matchup.
