Qualifying Format
The Daytona 500 has a unique qualifying process. On Wednesday, all cars will take one high-speed lap. The order for these laps is drawn randomly. The top 10 will then compete in a shootout to determine the front row for the race. The rest of the cars will split into two qualifying duels on Thursday, deciding their positions based on their finishing order.
Top Drivers and Odds
With restrictor plate racing, predicting the winner can be tricky. Currently, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, and Brad Keselowski all share the top odds at +1200. Below them, Kyle Busch is at +1400, followed by Denny Hamlin at +1500.
Notable Entries
This year, a new rule allows a “world-class driver” to join the field as the 41st car. Hélio Castroneves, a four-time Indianapolis 500 champion, is trying to qualify. If he secures a top 40 time, he’ll race. If not, we may see a larger field than in the last decade.
Jimmie Johnson, a seven-time champion, is also making waves as he attempts to qualify his own car. Johnson has participated in this race a couple of times since his retirement and looks to improve on his best finish of 28th.
