Don’t Miss the Thrilling Jayhawks vs. BYU Showdown This Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse!

The Kansas Jayhawks are gearing up for an exciting face-off against BYU on Wednesday, February 4, at 6:30 p.m. CT in Allen Fieldhouse. You can catch the game on ESPN+ with Brenda VanLengen and Niccolly Wuellner, or listen to the action on the Jayhawk Radio Network with Steven Davis and David Lawrence.

Unfortunately, Kansas has faced a tough time lately, losing two close games. They lost 69-66 in overtime to Colorado at home, adding to a prior 79-77 defeat against No. 12 TCU.

In their last game, junior guard S’Mya Nichols shone with 22 points, five assists, and three rebounds. She successfully made 12 out of 14 free throws during the match, marking this as her seventh game this season with at least 10 free throws made. Freshman forward Jaliya Davis also put in a strong performance, scoring 14 points and snagging six rebounds, while senior guard Elle Evans contributed 12 points and a season-high nine rebounds.

Currently, the Jayhawks hold a record of 13-10, with a 3-8 tally in Big 12 play. They have seven games left in the schedule, four of which will be played at Allen Fieldhouse, where they enjoy a home-court advantage with an 8-4 record this season.

BYU enters the game with a solid 16-6 record and a 5-5 standing in the Big 12 after taking down rival Utah 77-65. They lead the conference in rebounding, largely thanks to Delaney Gibb, the reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year, who averages 16.7 points per game.

Interestingly, Kansas has not lost to BYU in their previous four meetings since the Cougars joined the Big 12, with a recent 67-53 victory on January 31, 2024, at Allen Fieldhouse.

On an individual note, Jaliya Davis has been making history. She became the third player ever in Big 12 history to be named Freshman of the Week for five consecutive weeks, showcasing her talent by averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, shooting over 53% from the field. She’s currently the No. 2 scorer in Big 12 play at 21.9 points per game.

S’Mya Nichols has had a standout season too, recording her 11th game with over 20 points, bringing her career total to 36. With 156 free throws made, she leads the nation in that category and is KU’s all-time leader with 540 career free throws. Her scoring average of 18.1 points per game places her fourth in the Big 12.

Senior guard Elle Evans has also made an impact, scoring in double figures 11 times this season. She’s hitting a remarkable 48.1% of her three-point attempts, ranking second in the nation.

For fans looking ahead, don’t miss the matchup against Cincinnati on February 7 at 4:30 p.m. CT at Allen Fieldhouse, which will also be streamed on ESPN+.
