India is getting ready to host the WFADS Asian Championship Cup in 2026. This event will showcase exciting dance formats like Acrobatic Rock & Roll and Acro Swing. Organized by the World Federation of Acrobatic Dances and Dance Sports (WFADS) and the National Federation of Acrobatics and Dance Sport India (NFADI), it’s a step forward for dance athletes in the country.
Before the main competition, a training camp will run from May 4 to 7, 2026, at the Manthan Gymnastics Academy in New Delhi. Notable international champions, including Svetlana Gavrilova and Alexey Gavrilov, will train our Indian athletes. This is a unique chance for local dancers to learn from the best.
The main event is set for May 8, 2026, at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The day kicks off with the National Championship from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. This will help select India’s top dancers for international competitions. From 4 PM to 7 PM, the Asian Championship will take center stage, gathering participants from all over Asia.
This initiative aims to establish a clear path for athletes—starting from training to national selection and ultimately competing on the global stage. With its combination of dance, gymnastics, and fitness, Acrobatic Rock & Roll and Acro Swing are gaining international popularity. The goal is to make India a regular competitor in these dance sports.
About 120 Indian dancers from states like Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and Punjab will join the competition, with hopes of including Goa. Internationally, nearly 100 athletes from Kazakhstan, Russia, Vietnam, and others are expected to participate. Notably, athletes from Afghanistan and Iran are also in talks for attendance.
Building a solid foundation for acrobatic dance sports in India is key to this event. Recently, the National Trust of Acrobatic Dances and Sports Development was established, focusing on training and supporting athletes over the long term. NFADI is on track to become the official governing body that aligns with WFADS standards.
In a recent survey, 65% of young dancers expressed excitement about participating in such competitions, highlighting a growing interest in acrobatic dance among the youth. The event is not just about competition; it’s about fostering talent and providing opportunities.
