Big shoutout to Jaden Chavis for being named Lohud’s Player of the Week! He shone brightly in recent games against Somers, Harrison, and John Jay Cross River.

Peekskill had a tough game against Ardsley on January 14, losing 53-49. Chavis led with 27 points, while Isaiah Crawford added 13.

However, the boys bounced back on January 16, defeating Hendrick Hudson 68-44. Chavis scored 29 points, Crawford contributed 15, and Darius Smythe added 14.

Currently, the team holds a record of 7 wins and 5 losses. Their next game is against Edgemont on January 22, followed by a match at home against Sleepy Hollow on January 24, which will include Senior Night festivities.

This weekend, Peekskill will compete in the 13th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Mahopac High School on January 25, facing off against Suffern High School at 3:30 p.m.

Girls’ Basketball

It was a challenging week for the Peekskill Varsity Girls Basketball team. They faced Ardsley on January 14 and suffered a tough loss, 53-17, with Amari Murphy scoring 10 points.

On January 16, they struggled again against Hendrick Hudson, losing 61-15. Jealina Searight led with 5 points, while Murphy and Nai’lah Smalls each scored 4.

Things got closer on January 17 when they played Scarsdale B, losing 42-40. Murphy had a standout game with 27 points, along with 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Searight added 6 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 steals.

The Peekskill girls have an overall record of 3 wins and 8 losses. Their upcoming game is against Edgemont on January 22 at 6:15 p.m., followed by a match against the Barack Obama School on January 23 and a home game against Roosevelt High School on January 27.

Wrestling

Peekskill faced tough competition against John Jay Cross River on January 14, losing 72-6. Senior Tony Monchinski was the only one to score, with a pin in the 145 lbs class.

On January 17, the district held the Red Devil All-Girls Round Robin Wrestling Tournament, featuring 31 competitors. The tournament saw several standout performances, with winners in various weight classes.

Later, Peekskill competed in the Eric D’Agnese Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Somers High School, finishing 12th out of 17 teams. Monchinski and Kedwind Ramos both earned fourth place in their respective classes.

Next, the team will take on Lakeland-Panas at home on January 23 at 4:30 p.m., with Senior Night celebrations to take place prior to the dual. They will also compete in the Bulldog Wrestling Tournament at Beacon High School this weekend.

Winter Track

On January 20, the Peekskill Winter Track & Field team competed at the Armory Track in New York City. Jermaine Carter earned a gold medal for his performance in the 600 meter run, finishing with a time of 1:28.42.

Arisa Specce also had a great run, securing a silver medal in the 1,500 race walk with a time of 8:41.18.

Look out for the Red Devils at the Westchester County Meet at the Armory Track on January 25 at 6 p.m.

Boys’ Swimming

Peekskill versus Nyack

The Peekskill-Hen Hud-Haldane Varsity Swim team had a rough start to the week with a loss to Pearl River, 102-66, on January 14. They recognized their seniors during the match.

The boys regrouped the next day, securing a victory over Nyack, 83-77. Zachary Ninan excelled, taking first place in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.

The week wrapped up with a win against Port Chester, 95-69, where several swimmers achieved impressive times, including Thomas Loctizer in his events.

The final swim meet of the season is on January 24 against Ossining at 5 p.m. The championship meet will be on February 1 at Mount Vernon High School, according to head coach Alana Donabie.

Bowling

On January 9, Peekskill’s bowling teams faced North Salem, suffering a 7-0 loss in both boys and girls matches.

In a closer match against John Jay Cross River on January 13, the boys lost 4-3 while the girls lost 7-0. Elijah Resendes stood out, leading the boys’ team.

Peekskill then faced Hendrick Hudson on January 16, where they lost 7-0 again in both categories.

The next matches will be against Yorktown on January 22 at Cortlandt Lanes at 3:30 p.m., followed by a positional round on January 23, with opponents still to be confirmed.
