DoorDash Enhances Food Accessibility for SNAP Households: Discover How This Initiative Can Benefit You!

SAN FRANCISCO — DoorDash is making it easier for SNAP users to shop. They’ve added several new merchants where customers can use their SNAP/EBT benefits. Here’s the list:

  • CVS Pharmacy
  • Dierbergs Markets
  • Lowes Foods
  • New Seasons Market
  • Rouses Markets
  • Wegmans Food Markets, Inc.
  • Weis Markets

With these new additions, over 50,000 stores across the U.S. now accept SNAP/EBT payments through DoorDash. This helps make grocery delivery more affordable for those who qualify for SNAP.

Since the start of 2023, the SNAP/EBT option has quickly grown in popularity. Almost 3 million users have signed up, and now, 94% of U.S. households on SNAP can access at least one store on the platform. A report titled From Food Deserts to Dinner Tables shows the positive effects of this service. It indicates that users have improved their shopping and eating habits significantly. Key findings include:

  • 31% are eating more fruits and vegetables.
  • 24% have cut back on junk food.
  • 42% are cooking at home more often.
  • 74% feel less stressed about using their SNAP benefits compared to in-store shopping.
  • 71% say grocery delivery helps them manage their supplies for the whole month.

People also use SNAP/EBT for a range of needs, from weekly grocery restocks to purchasing essentials like baby formula. Interestingly, bananas topped the list of most-ordered groceries, milk was a favorite from convenience stores, and baby formula was in high demand from pharmacies.

One user expressed gratitude, saying, “I was really happy when SNAP/EBT was added. Having a baby means I constantly need diapers and milk. Since I don’t have a car, DoorDash has been a lifesaver.”

DoorDash aims to enhance food access for everyone, focusing on healthier eating and reducing daily stress. By extending SNAP/EBT options to more merchants, they are trying to make life easier for individuals and families who depend on these benefits. This expanding service aligns with recent trends in digital grocery shopping, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated online delivery services. According to a study by the Food Marketing Institute, 60% of consumers are more likely to use grocery delivery services today than they were before the pandemic, reflecting a lasting shift in shopping habits.
