Food Donation Drive on Election Day in Utah County
In the midst of a federal government shutdown, several cities in Utah County are stepping up to support local families in need. On Election Day, November 4, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Provo, and Vineyard will have food donation barrels at polling places.
This initiative is a collaboration between Community Action Services and the local food bank. Voters can easily contribute by either dropping off non-perishable food items or scanning a QR code for virtual donations.
Many families in the area are feeling the effects of the SNAP program shutdown, which has impacted as many as 11,000 households. According to Community Action Services, they expect a surge in demand for food, estimating an increase of over 5,000 pounds needed each day.
The “Get Out the Food” campaign aims to engage the community in a unique way: by voting and donating. This dual approach encourages civic participation while also addressing urgent food needs.
