Hannibal Farmers Market Supports Local Families with Food Programs
Hannibal, MO — Douglass Community Services is back at the Hannibal Farmers Market! Every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, they’ll be at Central Park until June 28. After that, the market will shift to Kiwanis Park, running until October 25. It’s a great spot for the community to come together, support local farmers, bakers, and crafters.
Douglass Community Services is committed to improving food access. They’ll have a booth where families can buy SNAP tokens, allowing them to shop with participating vendors. This initiative helps those who qualify access fresh, nutritious food.
One exciting program is the Missouri Double Up Food Bucks. Each day, families can receive matching funds for their SNAP dollars spent on fruits and vegetables, up to $25. This means they can double their buying power for fresh produce! The Double Up tokens can be used at the market until August 30.
A variety of vendors will be present, including:
- Mary’s Herbs and Baked Goods
- Stone River Farm
- Farr Family Homestead
- Crane Farms
- Gannie Cakes and Sweet Treats
- Haley’s Cookie Jar
- Sandy Creek Farm
- Neverland Garden, LLC
- Humility Homestead, LLC
- Raith Brothers Produce, LLC
- Hope Farms
- Daniel Hughes
Food access programs like SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks are more critical than ever. The USDA reports that food insecurity has consistently impacted about 10% of U.S. households. Initiatives like these can make a real difference for families.
