DP World Launches Construction of Bharat Mart in Dubai: A Game Changer for India-UAE Trade Relations

DP World is making waves with a new project called Bharat Mart. Located in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone, this global marketplace will connect Indian businesses to international markets. The construction has just begun, and the marketplace is expected to open its doors by late 2026.

Bharat Mart will cover 2.7 million square feet, with the first phase being 1.3 million square feet. It will feature 1,500 showrooms and extensive warehousing and office space. There will be dedicated areas for women-led Indian businesses, highlighting the commitment to inclusivity.

Dubai has long been a central hub for trade. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, pointed out that India’s non-oil trade with the UAE is booming, with over 2,300 Indian companies already operating in JAFZA. The strategic location of Bharat Mart—just 11 km from Jebel Ali Port and 15 km from Al Maktoum International Airport—will streamline access to around 150 maritime destinations and over 300 cities worldwide.

Indian businesses have a historic and positive relationship with Dubai. In fact, trade between India and the UAE has significantly increased in recent years. A goal of $100 billion in non-oil trade by 2030 has been set, and experts believe Bharat Mart will play a vital role in reaching this milestone.

Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, expressed enthusiasm for the project. He mentioned that it would not only strengthen ties between the two nations but also open new markets in Africa.

Furthermore, recent data shows a 15% year-on-year growth of Indian companies in Jafza, with 283 new businesses registered in 2024 alone. This trend reflects Dubai’s emergence as a leading global trade center.

Bharat Mart promises to transform the trade landscape, facilitating smoother connections for Indian exporters and fostering sustainable economic growth. The project represents a significant opportunity for growth and collaboration between India and the UAE.
