DP World Tour Update: Tommy Fleetwood Trails Leader Keita Nakajima by Two Shots in Thrilling India Showdown

Tommy Fleetwood had a bit of luck on the last hole during his third round at the DP World India Championship. He finished the day just two shots behind leader Keita Nakajima.

Fleetwood, who was the overnight leader, struggled on the back nine. He missed several short putts, allowing Nakajima to take charge with an impressive seven-under-par 65. By the time they reached the par-five 18th, Fleetwood was trailing by three strokes. He hit his approach into the trees, but miraculously, his ball bounced back into play. He managed to chip and putt for a birdie, finishing with a score of 69 and totaling 15 under for the tournament.

Shane Lowry, a fellow Ryder Cup team member, is in third place, just one shot behind after also scoring 69. Meanwhile, Alex Fitzpatrick made a strong showing, tying for fourth at 13 under with a bogey-free round of 67. Rory McIlroy struggled a bit, sitting in 15th place at 10 under after shooting 68.

Fleetwood started the tournament off strong with an eight-under 64 on Friday, but things changed on Saturday. He had three birdies on the front nine but missed several crucial putts on the back, including two from six feet and one on the 17th for par.

Nakajima was consistent throughout his round, making seven birdies and no bogeys, moving from fourth place to the lead with a score of 17 under. Lowry, who played with him, managed a birdie on the last hole and noted, “Keita played great today. He will be hard to beat tomorrow, but there will be a few of us not far behind him and hopefully giving him a run.”

This championship showcases how quickly fortunes can change in golf. As Fleetwood experienced, a few missed putts can shift a lead in a heartbeat. Golf’s unpredictability adds to its charm, making every round thrilling for players and fans alike.
