Drexel Women’s Tennis Shines at ITA Northeast Regionals
The Drexel women’s tennis team recently participated in the ITA Northeast Regionals at the University of Pennsylvania. The Dragons stood out thanks to junior Anastasia Kavounov and sophomore Rebecca Fiedler, who advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles. They achieved this after impressive victories against teams from Penn State and Binghamton.
Kavounov showed her talent by making it to the singles main draw again this year after winning two qualifying matches. Coach Eric Biscoveanu praised the team’s progress. “We learned a lot this weekend and saw some really positive steps forward,” he shared. “Kudos to Anastasia and Rebecca for their growth since teaming up last year. We can’t wait to get back to practice before the Dragon Invite in two weeks.”
Highlights
Kavounov’s journey was notable. She defeated opponents from St. John’s, Villanova, and Columbia before facing a tough match against Penn’s Velaga. In doubles, Kavounov and Fiedler took down Penn State’s Zink and Dimitrova, along with Binghamton’s Kuittinen and Reznitskaya.
Fiedler also had her ups and downs, facing challenges against Stony Brook but contributing to the doubles wins alongside Kavounov.
