Towson, Md. – In a nail-biting opener, Drexel softball faced off against Towson, ultimately falling 6-4 after a dramatic finish in the last inning. This match marked the Dragons’ first conference game of the season, moving their overall record to 10-8.
The game began with Towson striking first. In the fourth inning, Alyssa Myint hit a double, bringing in a run, followed by Addison Miller’s triple that pushed the score to 2-0.
Drexel fought back in the fifth. Quinn Cunningham and Annabelle Smink scored thanks to Olivia Sciulli’s two-run triple. Kylah Reading then brought in another run with her single, giving Drexel a brief 3-2 lead.
However, Towson quickly answered. In their half of the fifth, Addie Ferguson’s single brought in Kaci Benton, and Mackenzie Gorczyca’s record-setting single reestablished the lead for Towson at 4-3.
In a thrilling seventh inning, Drexel’s Ariana Castillo, pinch-hitting, got on base with a single. After a successful sacrifice bunt from Cunningham, Castillo scored due to an error, leveling the game at 4-4.
But Towson wouldn’t be denied. Ferguson sealed the victory with a walk-off two-run home run, ending the game at 6-4.
Reading stood out for Drexel, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Other contributors included Demchak, also with two hits, and Sciulli’s two-run triple. Castillo made her mark, finishing 1-for-1 with a crucial run.
Courtney Kols pitched a full game for Drexel, allowing six runs on 11 hits while striking out three across 6.0 innings.
