Duke Men’s Golf at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate
Duke’s men’s golf team started strong at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate on April 12. After 36 holes at Finley Golf Club, they are tied for sixth place with a total score of 12-over, 572. Senior Kelly Chinn is leading Duke’s players, sitting at 1-over, tied for 11th overall.
Round One Highlights
In the first round, Duke posted a score of 10-over, 290. Bryan Kim was on fire early, finishing with an even-par 70. Although he had a bogey to start, he rebounded with birdies on holes 8, 11, and 12. Unfortunately, a double-bogey on the last hole brought him back to even par.
Kelly Chinn shot a 2-over 72, showing resilience after a rocky start. His solid birdies on holes 4 and 8 helped balance out a double-bogey. He finished with nine pars, demonstrating his steady play.
Ethan Evans shot a 3-over, 73. He had a fantastic stretch with three consecutive birdies on holes 11 through 13, but six other holes saw him drop shots.
Daniel Choi and Luke Sample rounded out the primary lineup with scores of 5-over and 6-over, respectively.
Four other individual players competed too. John Peters led them with a score of 73, while Sam Mukherjee and John Hiller each posted 75. Oliver Mukherjee finished with an 80.
Round Two Improvements
In round two, the Blue Devils stepped it up, finishing at 2-over, 282. Kelly Chinn continued to shine, bringing home a 1-under 69. Starting on hole 3, he had a brief setback with a bogey on hole 4, quickly recovering with back-to-back birdies. He ended up with eight pars in his last ten holes, closing strong.
Luke Sample played consistently, shooting an even-par 70 after two bogeys early on. He made crucial birdies on 8, 10, and 12, showing his ability to bounce back.
Ethan Evans kept his momentum going with a final score of 71. He had two birdies and managed to secure a strong finish despite some tough holes.
Bryan Kim played well too, finishing the second round at 2-over. Daniel Choi rounded out the day’s play with a 3-over score of 73.
For the individual players, John Peters led again, scoring 74 in round two, while John Hiller and Oliver Mukherjee both posted 76.
Looking Ahead
