The Duquesne University volleyball team is on the road this weekend, taking on Fordham in the Bronx, New York. They have two matches lined up: one on Friday, October 17, and another on Saturday, October 18, both at the Rose Hill Gym.
The Dukes recently faced off against Loyola Chicago, but unfortunately, they lost both matches without winning a set. Even amidst the challenges, some players stood out. Freshman Karli Jordan led the team with nine kills in one match, while sophomore Emersen Schrom was a key player, contributing greatly in both matches.
Head coach Steve Opperman has reached a coaching milestone this season, earning his 500th career win. He’s one of only 26 active coaches in the nation to achieve this. Opperman has dedicated 28 seasons to the Dukes, making him the longest-tenured coach in the program. His wealth of experience continues to shape the team.
Looking ahead, Duquesne’s next match is against Dayton on Tuesday, October 21.

Fordham is finishing a tough run of five consecutive home matches. They enter this weekend’s match with a record of 7-10 overall. One player to watch is Tatum Holderied, a standout middle blocker. She leads NCAA Division I in blocks per set, showcasing impressive defensive skills. On the offensive end, Audrey Brown and Erynn Sweeney are also strong contributors for the Rams, both averaging over 3.00 points per set.
