EAC Requests Detailed Report on Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme in Andhra Pradesh: What It Means for the Future of Agriculture

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has asked the Andhra Pradesh government to provide a detailed report on the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS). This report needs to show restoration efforts, including photos, methods, and timelines.

This comes after a case was taken to the National Green Tribunal, highlighting concerns about the project. The EAC met virtually on February 27 to discuss these issues, agreeing with points raised by Telangana.

In the meeting, it was recommended that the project team submit a sworn statement along with their Environmental Clearance application. This statement must confirm that no work has started outside of creating the Detailed Project Report.

Authorities have been warned that supplying false information could lead to serious legal consequences under various environmental laws, including the Water and Air Prevention and Control of Pollution Acts and the Environment Protection Act.
