The Philadelphia Eagles are excited about the possibility of visiting the White House to celebrate their recent Super Bowl LIX victory. A team source confirmed this to CNN after there were rumors online that they had turned down the traditional visit.

According to the source, the Eagles haven’t received an official invitation yet. “We would be honored to visit the White House,” they shared. “It’s something we looked forward to, and we hope to get that invitation soon.”

This year, the Eagles won against the Kansas City Chiefs, marking their second Super Bowl championship. After their first win in 2018, the team chose not to celebrate at the White House, declining an invitation from President Trump at that time.

Trump’s criticism followed their decision. He accused the Eagles of disrespecting the National Anthem, although that claim was not true. Eventually, he rescinded the invitation to the entire team.

The Eagles’ choice mirrored that of the Golden State Warriors, who also skipped a White House visit after winning the NBA title in 2017. Many teams during Trump’s presidency faced scrutiny for deciding not to attend the celebrations.

The atmosphere changed with President Biden, who welcomed numerous championship teams without the previous tensions. He generally kept things light, even if some teams chose not to visit.

Trump’s presence was a hot topic leading up to Super Bowl LIX. Eagles’ lineman Lane Johnson mentioned that visiting the White House would be decided as a team. “I’d be honored to go, no matter who the president is,” he said, highlighting the team’s unity in the decision-making process.

Head coach Nick Sirianni said he was more focused on celebrating their win in New Orleans and later in Philadelphia than worrying about a visit to the White House. “We’ll see what happens,” he noted. “Right now, it’s all about enjoying this victory.”
