Embry-Riddle track athletes showcased their skills at the Mangrum Invitational hosted by Cal State San Marcos this past Friday.
In the 800 meters, Jacob Ortiz impressed everyone, finishing 19th with a record-breaking time of 2:00.13, lowering the previous ERAU record by three seconds. Joseph Fox and Xander Wood also put in strong performances, finishing in 2:01 and 2:02.26, respectively. Nathan Kutscher followed closely with a time of 2:02.60. Dillon Eisner recorded a personal best of 2:02.93, while Carlos Soto completed the race in 2:03.97.
Moving to the 1500 meters, Nathan Nations led the Eagles with a time of 4:06.20. Dillon Eisner finished not far behind at 4:09.96. Joseph Fox and Kutscher crossed the line at 4:10.25 and 4:14.37, respectively. Ortiz and Luca Calero finished together in 4:16.46 and 4:16.61. Joshua Durban followed with a time of 4:18.66, and Xander Wood finished in 4:21.14. Dave Richards, Carlos Soto, and Benjamin Kovach all ran closely together, clocking in at 4:21.95, 4:22.06, and 4:22.26.
In the 5000 meters, Maxwell Kilstrom led the Eagles with an impressive time of 15:23.19, securing 11th overall. Nicolas Urquidez finished in 15:42.08, with Nathan Nations and Luca Calero finishing closely behind in 15:57.41 and 15:58.48, respectively. Richards crossed the line in 16:20, while Kovach followed at 16:25.
Finally, Trevor Head was the lone competitor in the 10,000 meters, finishing with a time of 33:45.82.
This event highlighted the ongoing progress and strength of the Embry-Riddle track team. With multiple athletes achieving personal bests and breaking the school record, it marks a promising start to the season.
