East Carolina Wins Ironwood Collegiate Classic

East Carolina University made waves by clinching its first team title at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic, finishing with a score of 841, which is 23 under par. This two-day, 54-hole tournament took place at the scenic Ironwood Golf and Country Club.

The Pirates, who also won this event last year, surpassed their closest competitor, UCF, by eight strokes. UCF ended the tournament at 849 (15 under par). Jacksonville State followed closely with a score of 851 (13 under), while Appalachian State and Gardner-Webb both finished at 857 (7 under).

Philip Lindberg Bondestad stole the spotlight again by taking first place, marking his second consecutive win. He shot an impressive 11 under par, totaling 205 for the event. This achievement is significant as he becomes the first Pirate since Lucas Augustasson to win back-to-back events, adding to his growing reputation in college golf.

Bondestad reflected on his success, saying, “Today means a lot. I played well from the start and focused on my process. The team did great, leading from the beginning.” His confidence and dedication were clear as he celebrated both his personal win and the team’s achievement.

In terms of team performance, Davis DeLillie finished tied for fourth with an impressive score of 209 (7 under). Teammates Drew O’Neal and Luke Mosley secured a share of 11th place with scores of 212 (4 under). Other notable finishes included Holden Rucker and Josh Davies, who tied for 21st (1 under, 215), and Adam Lennermark at 216 (even par), finishing tied for 27th. Nathan O’Neal and Oscar Crowe rounded out the team, finishing tied for 37th (2 over, 218) and 69th (11 over, 227), respectively.

The Pirates will aim to maintain their momentum when they compete again at the Elon Phoenix Invitational on October 13 in Burlington, N.C.

This tournament not only highlights East Carolina’s talent but also mirrors a growing trend in collegiate golf where individual and team performances increasingly intertwine, reflecting the hard work and dedication of young athletes. As they prepare for future challenges, fans are keenly watching how this season unfolds.
