SALT LAKE CITY — Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin has just set the NBA rookie record for hitting a 3-pointer in 34 games straight. This impressive feat came during a 106-99 victory against the Utah Jazz.
Demin marked this milestone with his first basket of the night, finishing with a team-high 25 points and nailing 6 of 12 shots from beyond the arc. “There’s a reason we drafted him,” said Brooklyn coach Jordie Fernandez. “He’s shown us he has NBA-level shooting skills from day one.”
Before this, Demin was tied with Rudy Fernandez and Landry Shamet, who both held the record at 33 games. His teammate, Day’ron Sharpe, added, “You can see his confidence growing. The next few years could be huge for him.”
Demin was picked 8th overall from BYU last year. He credits his success to countless hours of practice. Despite a rough shooting percentage of 27.3% during his time at BYU, he learned a lot from his coach, Kevin Young. “He gave me a strong foundation for playing in the NBA,” Demin said. “I learned what I needed to be prepared.”
This year, he’s also closing in on another record: the most 3-pointers made by a rookie in Nets history. He’s currently second, behind Kerry Kittles’ record of 158 from the 1996-97 season.
Recent statistics show that 3-point shooting has exploded in the NBA in recent years, making players like Demin key to their teams’ strategies. In the 2020-2021 season, teams averaged almost 35 attempts per game, reflecting the game’s shift towards perimeter shooting. Coaches and players alike emphasize the importance of developing this skill.
Fans have taken to social media to celebrate Demin’s achievement. Positive reactions and encouragement are flooding in, showcasing how much he has already resonated with the Brooklyn fanbase. His journey from struggling at BYU to breaking records in the NBA serves as inspiration for aspiring players everywhere.
