On the third day of Eid al-Adha, Israel intensified military actions in Gaza, resulting in numerous casualties. Despite international concerns, airstrikes targeted areas near aid distribution centers, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, over 54,000 people have died and more than 125,000 have been injured since October 7, 2023. Recent strikes led to hospitals receiving ten fatalities and over 110 injuries from regions close to humanitarian aid zones. Strikes on these sites have reportedly led to over 110 deaths and more than 1,000 injuries.
Among the reported incidents, four Palestinians died and around 70 were injured near a US-linked aid center west of Rafah. A drone attack in al-Mawasi killed five, including two children. Other casualties were reported in Khan Younis and Jabalia due to ongoing airstrikes.
Artillery fire hit the Al-Atatra area, injuring a child and an elderly man, while two others were hurt in Abasan. Israeli helicopter gunships also attacked homes in central Gaza. The health infrastructure is on the brink of collapse, with the health ministry director warning of impending mass death due to systematic attacks on medical facilities.
Hospitals in Gaza face fuel shortages and strict electricity rationing, which could lead to closures within 48 hours. “Malnutrition is widespread, and the population is entering a critical stage,” said a hospital official. Khan Younis, home to 650,000 residents, relies heavily on the Nasser Medical Complex, which is now struggling to operate. Dialysis units have ceased functioning amid persistent attacks.
In a related note, Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas’ military wing, warned about the fate of Israeli soldier Matan Zangauker, indicating that he is surrounded by Israeli forces. He cautioned that if Zangauker is killed during an operation, the responsibility would lie with the Israeli army.
This crisis highlights a troubling trend. According to a recent report from the World Health Organization (WHO), conflict-related health services have dramatically declined since the escalation began. Experts believe that such prolonged military actions could lead to a humanitarian disaster, drawing attention from the global community.
