Elie Simon Shines as He Joins MEC All-Freshman Team – A Milestone for Wheeling University Athletics!

Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Men’s Soccer team is on a roll in 2025, showcasing a young and talented roster. For the fourth consecutive year, a freshman has earned a spot on the Mountain East Conference (MEC) All-Freshman team. This year, it’s Elie Simon who receives the honor, continuing a great tradition for the Cardinals.

Simon made an impressive mark in his first season. He scored one goal and gathered two points, ranking third in goals and sixth in total points among teammates. Known for his skill with free kicks, he scored his debut goal against Point Park on September 14, launching a shot into the top right corner. Throughout the season, he led the Cardinals with 13 shots on goal and a shooting percentage of .481, demonstrating his offensive capabilities.

In comparison to other freshmen in the conference, Simon stood out as the second-leading shot taker. One standout match was against Concord, where he fired off four shots, scoring twice. He consistently contributed to the team, playing the full 90 minutes in seven of the 14 games during the season.

This recognition for Simon marks a significant achievement, as he’s the first student-athlete from Wheeling University to earn All-Conference honors this season. He joins the ranks of previous All-Freshman selections, including Diego Buenano (2022), Jon-Michael Gordon (2023), and Jordan Taylor (2024).

As the Wheeling Men’s Soccer team wraps up the season, they reflect on their growth and look forward to the challenges of the 2026 season. Their commitment to developing young talent bodes well for their future.
