It looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) won’t have the Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen, in the upcoming Avengers films. In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen mentioned she has wrapped up her current project and won’t be joining the production in London for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are set to film back-to-back.
"No, I’m back [in the States]," she stated. Right now, she’s busy filming a pilot for a new FX show called Seven Sisters.
Olsen’s journey as the Scarlet Witch began with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. Her last appearance was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, where her character faced a dramatic end to destroy dark forces. She also starred in the acclaimed Disney+ series WandaVision.
While Olsen’s comments seem clear, the MCU is known for its secrets. Actors often mislead about their roles to keep surprises under wraps. For instance, in the film Deadpool & Wolverine, actress Dafne Keen kept her return as X-23 a secret until just before the movie premiered. She reflected on the fun of hiding her involvement in various interviews, inspired by Andrew Garfield, who did the same for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The excitement around who will appear in the next Avengers movie continues to build. Actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Evans have stirred speculation with their conflicting statements about returning to their roles. Cumberbatch initially said he wouldn’t reprise Doctor Strange, only to later backtrack. Meanwhile, Evans has claimed he’s "happily retired," despite swirling rumors about his return.
On the brighter side, fans can look forward to seeing Robert Downey Jr. back with a twist, as he will play the villain, Victor von Doom, in Doomsday. The film is set for release on May 1, 2026. As the anticipation builds, we’ll have to stay tuned to see who else makes it into the lineup.
