Ellen Buettner Transitions from CEO of Oklahoma Health Care Authority to Exciting New State Position

Governor Kevin Stitt has appointed Ellen Buettner as the new CEO of Oklahoma’s largest four-year university system. This marks a significant shift for Buettner, who has been leading the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) for over two years. During her time at OHCA, she oversaw the transition to managed care in Oklahoma, known as SoonerSelect, which changed how the state coordinates health care for many residents.

In a recent press release, Buettner was commended for her improvements in maternal health access and her management of the state employee benefits program. “OHCA is grateful for Ellen’s leadership and we look forward to her next chapter,” a spokesperson expressed. Buettner’s last day with the OHCA was Friday, and her successor will be announced soon.

Buettner takes over from Brandon Tatum, who left his role earlier this year. Stitt noted her extensive experience in health care and administration, stating, “Her proven track record makes her the right leader for RUSO.”

Buettner aims to enhance the regional universities’ role in Oklahoma’s workforce development. “I’m eager to ensure our university system ranks among the top ten in the nation,” she said.
