Elon Musk Reveals How DOGE Will Revolutionize F.A.A. Technology and Enhance Safety Features

On Wednesday, the Trump administration revealed that Elon Musk’s team will inspect the nation’s aviation system.

Musk shared that this initiative, part of the Department of Government Efficiency, aims to enhance safety quickly in the air traffic control system.

“Just days ago, the FAA’s main safety alert system went down for hours!” he mentioned, referring to the Federal Aviation Administration.

His remarks followed a system failure over the weekend, which occurred shortly after a midair collision involving an Army helicopter and an American Airlines plane at Ronald Reagan National Airport.

This incident adds to concerns about Musk’s influence on the federal government, which has already caused surprises and sparked some protests.

The affected system is called NOTAM, which stands for Notice to Air Missions. This system alerts airlines to hazards, like runway closures. Fortunately, a backup system kicked in to keep things running.

This recent outage was not the first of its kind; another occurred in January 2023, causing a major flight delay by grounding thousands of planes.

It remains unclear what specific improvements the team will make to enhance aviation safety.

Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, confirmed on X that he had talked with Musk’s team but didn’t reveal any details about their plans.

The White House and the Transportation Department have not yet commented on the situation.
