Elon University Earns Top Marks: ‘A’ Grade in ADL’s Latest Campus Report Card

The Anti-Defamation League has just released its second campus report card, evaluating 135 colleges this year, up from 85 last year. This report assesses how effectively schools are working to combat antisemitism. Notably, Elon University earned an “A,” joining other esteemed institutions like Brandeis University and Florida International University. Last year, Elon and Brandeis were the only schools to achieve this top grade.

To create this report, the ADL surveyed Jewish students on three main topics: the effectiveness of current policies, the importance of Jewish life on campus, and the impact of antisemitism and anti-Zionist groups. Among the schools evaluated, 49 received grades of “A” or “B,” while 41 struggled with “D” or “F” grades.

This report comes after a troubling rise in antisemitism on college campuses, particularly following the Hamas attack at the Nova Music festival in Israel on October 7, 2023. Positive changes are evident, with schools like Harvard University improving from an “F” to a “C.” The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill also made significant progress, moving from an “F” to a “C,” along with nine other institutions.

Betsy Polk, who directs Jewish Life at Elon University, expressed her gratitude for the report’s findings. She emphasized that Jewish life is an essential part of the Elon community, contributing to its overall fabric and collaborative spirit.
