Elon University’s Reding Shines as CAA Player of the Week!

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon junior Mariana Reding is on fire. After an undefeated week in both singles and doubles, she was named the CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Reding swept all her matches, helping the Phoenix achieve a 3-0 record. In singles, she played at the No. 3 spot and won against Juana Gomez Weiss from North Carolina A&T (7-6, 6-2), Katie Godfree from Wofford (7-5, 6-2), and Ellie Hammond from Davidson (7-6, 6-3). Her win against Davidson secured a 4-0 victory for Elon.

In doubles, Reding teamed up with Simone Bergeron for three wins at the No. 1 position. They clinched the doubles point in each match, defeating Gomez Weiss and Flavia Villegas (6-4), dominating Wofford’s duo (6-0), and edging out Bryson Langford and Savanna Kollock from Davidson (6-3).

What’s impressive? Reding didn’t lose a single set in any of her six matches. She is also 3-0 in singles tiebreaks this season, showing her competitive edge.

This spring, Reding leads the team with six victories. This is her second time being named CAA Player of the Week, with her first recognition coming on January 28, 2025. She’s also the second Phoenix player to earn an award this spring, following Cornelia Kack, who was named Co-CAA Player of the Week on February 17.

Elon now holds the highest ITA team ranking in its history at No. 58. They sit at 6-2 for the season and are the only CAA team represented in the current ITA standings.

Reding and her team are set to play against South Carolina State on Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, with the match starting at 1 p.m.
