The DMED – Mediterranean Diet Fair is back in Paestum for its fourth edition, running from May 30 to June 1. This event, organized by the Edamus Consortium, celebrates the Mediterranean Diet not just as a way of eating, but as a rich cultural and environmental model.
With over 300 participants, including scholars, chefs, and artists, the fair is an exciting hub of activities. There will be talks, cooking demonstrations, workshops, and performances designed to connect knowledge with local communities. Emilio Ferrara, president of the Edamus Consortium, emphasized the importance of these interactions. He remarked that the Mediterranean Diet embodies a lifestyle worthy of protection and innovation, especially amid rising concerns about sustainability and health.
A highlight this year is the DMED Award, recognizing those who’ve significantly promoted the Mediterranean Diet. Notable awardees include former environment minister Ermete Realacci and acclaimed chef Peppe Guida. Celebrity appearances will add to the fair’s charm, with personalities like Maria Grazia Cucinotta and numerous chefs and creative talents participating.
In addition to culinary events, there will be a competition aimed at schools encouraging students to appreciate the Mediterranean Diet. This initiative aims to inspire youth about the cultural and social values tied to this way of living.
Furthermore, the “Handmade Pasta Championship” will showcase culinary skills from across Italy, focused on the beloved Italian dish of fresh pasta. Each evening will culminate with performances featuring a mix of folk and pop music.
New this year, Radio Tv DMED will cover the event live, featuring several Italian radio and television partners. The fair encourages a discussion about the Mediterranean as a key to understanding our present and guiding future initiatives, reflecting on the UN’s 2030 Agenda principles: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.
The Mediterranean Diet not only represents a way of healthy eating but acts as a bridge connecting cultures and communities. As we engage with this rich heritage, we also invest in a sustainable and cohesive future.
