Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh spoke recently about India’s vision for a “Viksit Bharat,” or Developed India, which emerged after 2014. He noted a shift in how people now express pride in Indian culture and “sanatan” values, calling it a significant change.

This statement came during the launch of a book titled ‘Sanskriti Ka Paanchva Adhyay,’ a collection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speeches focused on culture. The book features 34 speeches, starting from Modi’s 2015 address on Independence Day and concluding with a recent speech in October 2024.

Harivansh emphasized that the concept of “Viksit Bharat” began gaining traction only after 2014, marking a new era for the country. He mentioned that this view encourages people to reject a “slave mentality” and instead embrace their cultural heritage. He believes the material in the book supports this shift toward appreciating Indian culture.

Referencing the work of poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Harivansh suggested that if Dinkar were alive today, he would have updated his views to align with modern times. The book was officially released by Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Pujya Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj, a notable figure in Indian culture.

The compilation includes speeches that celebrate diverse Indian traditions, from spiritual places like Kedarnath and Ram Janmabhoomi to significant events such as Guru Nanak Jayanti and international conferences. Additionally, reflections from esteemed scholars like Acharya Shri Pragya Sagar Ji Maharaj add depth to the cultural discussions in the book.

This focus on culture comes at a time when many Indians are increasingly identifying with their heritage, as seen in recent social media trends. Online discussions often revolve around embracing traditional values alongside modern life—showing that there’s a growing interest in reconnecting with India’s rich history.

The ‘Sanskriti Ka Paanchva Adhyay’ serves not just as a celebration of speeches but also as an exploration of India’s cultural identity, reflecting a blend of ancient traditions and contemporary aspirations.
