Embry-Riddle faced a tough game against Keiser University, ending with a score of 14–0. The Eagles, now at a record of 7–7, started strong but couldn’t carry that energy through.
In the first inning, Konner Nelson got things going with a single and stole second base. Miles Murphy followed with another hit, putting runners on the corners. Unfortunately, a double play and a strikeout ended the inning, and the momentum faded quickly.
The Eagles managed just four hits throughout the game. Aside from Nelson and Murphy, James Warren and Caden Truman also contributed with single hits, but Keiser’s pitcher Jack Molloy was in control. He pitched a complete game, striking out six without allowing any walks.
The game turned in the middle innings. Jesse Kaphing started strong for Embry-Riddle, achieving eight strikeouts, but Keiser’s offense surged, scoring several runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. The pivotal moment came in the fifth with a two-RBI double from A. Balart.
Relievers Alexander Mullen and Jacob Samsing wrapped up the game, with Samsing striking out one batter in his brief time on the mound.
As the Eagles prepare for a doubleheader against Keiser on Friday, they’ll look to turn things around and regain their momentum.
A note on team performance: According to recent research from the National Federation of State High School Associations, high school baseball participation has increased by 7% over the past five years. This growth may point to a rising interest in baseball at the youth level, potentially leading to more competitive college teams in the future.
