Food for People Responds to Local Needs Amid SNAP Delays

In Humboldt County, many families are facing tough times due to delays in SNAP (CalFresh) benefits and economic uncertainty from the federal government shutdown. To help, Food for People, the county’s food bank, teamed up with College of the Redwoods and the Hoopa Valley Food Distribution for two emergency food drives on November 13.

The first drive took place at the College of the Redwoods, featuring a drive-thru setup. The second was held at the Hoopa Valley Food Distribution site. Together, these events provided food assistance to over 800 households.

Carly Robbins, Executive Director of Food for People, shared, “Families are under tremendous pressure. The delays in CalFresh benefits and concerns about federal employees’ financial situations have made it hard for many to put food on the table. We’re dedicated to helping our community however we can.”

Food for People acknowledges the support from various local organizations and volunteers that made these distributions possible. The need for food assistance is growing, especially as economic pressures continue.
