Brian Campbell made waves on Sunday by securing his very first PGA Tour win at the Mexico Open, surrounded by joy as he celebrated with his girlfriend, Kelsi McKee.
After sinking a birdie on the second playoff hole to outplay South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter, the emotions ran high. Kelsi jumped into Brian’s arms, a moment captured beautifully on the course.
“This feels unreal,” said the 31-year-old golfer. “I still can’t believe it.”
This win has been a long time coming for Campbell, who turned pro back in 2015. During his final round, he finished with a score of 1-under 70, which set him up for a dramatic playoff with the young Potgieter, just two years into his own professional journey.
On the second playoff hole, Campbell faced a tough situation as his ball veered off course, landing close to the brush. However, luck was on his side. As broadcaster Smylie Kaufman put it, Campbell experienced the “bounce of a career” and landed on the green, just behind Potgieter.
With a well-executed pitch shot, Campbell made the birdie to claim victory. His caddie, Cooper Wilson, expressed disbelief at the fortunate bounce they received, which was pivotal in securing the win.
The celebration was thrilling. As champagne flowed, Kelsi shared a tender moment with Brian, emphasizing just how hard he worked for this achievement. “Brian has always been incredibly talented, but no one deserves this more than he does,” she said.
Since at least 2020, Brian has openly shared his relationship with Kelsi on social media. This win not only brings glory but also opens doors for him to compete in prestigious tournaments coming up, including the Players Championship next month and the Masters.
With his victory, Campbell is ready to chase even bigger dreams in the world of golf.
