Mumbai: Rohit Bal, one of India’s most iconic fashion designers, passed away in November last year, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire. His stunning creations have graced numerous celebrities and fashion lovers around the world. A recent event in Gurugram highlighted this enduring influence as Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor paid a heartfelt tribute to him.
At the Blenders Pride X FDCI Fashion Tour 2025, videos showed Sonam getting emotional as she greeted the audience with folded hands. She wore a beautiful white outfit paired with an ornate ivory jacket, tying her hair back with red flowers to complete her retro look.
Alongside her pictures on Instagram, Sonam expressed her honor in walking the runway in memory of Rohit Bal, stating, “His artistry, vision, and legacy have shaped Indian fashion in ways beyond measure.”
The fashion show featured many well-known personalities, including filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, designer JJ Valaya, and actors like Eesha Gupta and Rahul Dev, all celebrating Rohit’s remarkable contribution to the fashion industry.
Rohit Bal was 63 when he died from a heart condition. His fashion journey began in 1986 with his brother Rajiv in New Delhi, and he launched his first solo collection in 1990. His innovative designs quickly made him a household name.
After his death, discussions around his will sparked controversy between his close friend, former model Lalit Tehlan, and Rohit’s family. Sunil Sethi, Chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India and executor of the will, emphasized the need for transparency in the process, stating that he aims to ensure all beneficiaries are recognized.
In an interview, Sunil mentioned that the responsibility of executing Rohit’s will took him by surprise. He expressed his commitment to handling the situation carefully: “I’m awaiting more information from the lawyers of both parties involved. After assessing the situation, we will proceed accordingly.” He noted that discussions had been delayed due to a family medical emergency.
Sunil has not yet seen the entire will, but he will be a witness to its details in the coming days. This meeting will involve both parties and close friends of Rohit, ensuring that everything is handled respectfully and correctly.
