A staff member at the Ballard Food Bank in Seattle was stabbed during an incident with a client on Monday morning. Police responded to a report around 10:30 a.m. and found a 35-year-old employee outside with a stab wound. He was treated by officers until medics arrived and was later taken to Harborview Medical Center. Thankfully, his injuries are not life-threatening.
A 34-year-old man, who is a client of the food bank, has been arrested in connection with the stabbing. Police recovered a weapon at the scene. The suspect also had a cut on his leg and was taken to the same hospital for evaluation before facing charges for assault.
According to The Seattle Times, the incident started when the client became aggressive inside the food bank. An employee tried to calm him down and escorted him outside, where the altercation escalated, leading to the stabbing.
In light of this incident, the Ballard Food Bank is closing temporarily to allow staff and volunteers to recover. They are working with other local food banks to ensure that clients can still receive their food supplies.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety in community spaces, especially those serving vulnerable populations.
