The Bharat International Rice Conference 2025 is set for October 30–31 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This event aims to put India’s cooperatives and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in the spotlight, showcasing their role in strengthening India’s position in the global rice supply chain.
Organized by the Indian Rice Exporters’ Federation (IREF) with support from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and various government ministries, the conference expects a turnout of over 3,000 farmers and representatives from FPOs, along with 2,500 exporters and nearly 1,000 international buyers from more than 80 countries.
Key players like the National Cooperative Exports Limited and Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited will demonstrate how cooperatives can bridge small farmers with global markets. India produces around 150 million tonnes of rice each year and is a leading exporter, sending out over 20 million tonnes valued at nearly $13 billion. The goal is to expand this export base using farmer-led and cooperative-driven strategies.
The Ministry of Cooperation will focus on collective marketing and sustainable supply chains to empower rural producers. There will be eight technical sessions covering topics like innovation, market access, and climate resilience.
A noteworthy initiative is the Vision and Roadmap for the Rice Sector, being developed with input from various stakeholders, including ICAR and the International Rice Research Institute. This comprehensive plan aims to unlock ₹1.80 lakh crore worth of new markets and establish export agreements valued at ₹25,000 crore.
For a more interactive experience, the conference will feature a Culinary Experience Zone where attendees can taste and learn about Indian rice varieties. This will involve live tastings and networking opportunities among cooperative brands and farmer groups.
By focusing on cooperatives and FPOs, the conference hopes to present India’s rice sector as a model for inclusive growth and global competitiveness. Participants will leave with renewed insights into how these initiatives can contribute to a more sustainable future.
With rice consumption rising, experts believe this focus can enhance food security and farmer income. A recent survey from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) indicates that countries increasingly prioritize sustainable agricultural practices, making events like this crucial for ensuring India’s competitive edge in the market.
